The Truth About Lectins

Serotonin is important for the body.  However, when this important substance is artificially altered by drugs there can be dire consequences.  There are many natural ways of increasing Serotonin without interrupting the natural Serotonin cycle.  The two natural methods of increasing Serotonin are eating more protein, half a gram to a gram of protein per pound of body weight.   The other is to eat more non-starchy carbohydrates in the form of vegetables.  These are effective strategies for building Serotonin naturally.

However, you must be careful when it comes to carbohydrates.  As was said in a previous post, Exorphins are the opiate type compounds found in grains.  It produces a sleepy and drowsy effect.  There can also be a sugar aspect to grains which will affect the sugar processing system.  Not only is there gluten to be concerned about but there are other proteins that can present harmful effects on the body called Lectins.  Lectins are part of a plant's defensive system designed to punish the herbivores and omnivores who dare to eat them.  Gluten intolerance is just one of the casualties of this plant level struggle. Gluten damages its targeted antagonist via chemicals that are designed to upset the gut.  Gluten intolerance is a Lectins intolerance.  Seeds, beans, grains are the most concentrated sources of Lectins.  By ingesting Lectins pathogens and harmful substances attache themselves to the delicate cell walls and damage is done.

Nerve Cells are specifically targeted by Lectins.  The coating of the Nerve Cells is called Myelin.  Myelin is composed of fats and sugars.  Lectins thruve in Sugar Structures.  Biological sugar does not only mean sweet tasting sugars we use for food but they have chemistry functions in the body that go beyond taste. These biological coatings in the Myelin are targets for Lectins.  This is particularly true about brain and nerve cells.  The Lectins tend to bind themselves to the Myelin sheaths where they can wreak havoc.  Lectins can cause Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Infections, Diabetes, Obesity, and more.

Identifying problem food is the first step in determining the cause of any disease.  Foods that cause gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, cramps, indigestion or any other digestive symptom should be eliminated.  Once the digestive tract has been compromised malabsorption will take place and disease can get a foothold.  It is as if you have a boat that leaks.  The food you try to eat for nutrition leaks out and you become malnourished. The person suffering from disease or obesity should keep a detailed log of what he has eaten so that those problem foods can be eliminated.  If you are gaining weight or having any symptoms at all you must determine which foods are causing you problems.  The symptoms will get worse.

Bacterias like H-Pylori use Lectins to attach themselves to the digestive tract.  Cancer uses Lectins to spread itself and to metastasize.  One of the best ways to dissolve the Lectin attachments or to loosen it is to "Slime" it.  Biologically speaking, what we call slime is really a combination of proteins and sugars that are called Polysaccharides and water.  This compound give the appearance of slime.  Proteins and sugars absorb a lot of water.  We use this combination to thicken gravy and sauces.  This is an example of the slime properties.  In the body this is known as Polysacchide / Proteoglycans.  When mixed with water it is slimy.   Eating slimy foods like eggs is an anti-Lectin strategy.  Mucous in the body is a powerful anti-Lectin strategy.  Lectins will bind to sugars and Proteoglycans if they are present in a large enough quantity.

Vegetables are also a rich source of this slime combination.  You should eat a pound of vegetables for every 50 pounds of body weight.  Seaweed and cartridge from bone soup are another way to get Lectins out of the body.  Lectins will attach to these substances and not be able to attach themselves to healthy cells.

Cooking food, fermenting foods and sprouting foods may help to get rid of Lectin problems but not completely.  Fermenting food is also helpful because it provides a good source of Probiotics.  We also recommend the Glucogel from Youngevity which helps to deal with Lectins.
