Grain Addiction

Grains: As Addictive As Heroin


Serotonin is an awareness hormone and a vigilence hormone.  It allows the body to adjust to the ups and downs of life.  Therefore, we must think of it as a stress hormone.  When you become overly aware and overly sensitive to the ups and downs of life the body can become stressed out.

Serotonin allows the body to perceive threats to its existence and this can push people to take extreme measures in an attempt to protect the overall organism.  Serotonin is far from the "Happy" hormone as it is portrayed in the media.  Although, its immediate effects may have some beneficial attributes in the long run it can wear the persons psyche out.  Thus this may account for the odd behaviors and violent reactions by some people who are on Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI's).  Perhaps a more natural cycle of Serotonin production would be safer for the individual?

In opposition to Serotonin is Melatonin.  It is a relaxing restful hormone.  While the Serotonin response is vigilence and wakefulness Melatonin's response is restfulness and relaxation which leads to healing.  In the stress response mode the body can not heal or grow.  Growth and healing can only take place in the rest and relax mode.  As a result through the unnatural use of Serotonin as a prescribed drug the body will breakdown and disease will begin.  The stress response is unavoidable once the person begins to take SSRI's.  Rage, violent and suicidal tendancies emirge and may be the result of f taking SSRI's. 

Steps to Increasing Serotonin Levels Naturally:

1. Eating more protein is the first and single most important strategy to being able to bring Serotonin levels back to normal naturally as well as for any mental health issues.    You must take in the Amino Acid Tryptophan which is found in whey protein, dairy protein, meats, organ meats, eggs, fish, beans and flax seeds. 

2. Eat more carbohydrates.  60% if calories need to come from carbohydrates.  But the must be the "correct" carbohydrates.  You need more carbohydrates if you are going to boost Serotonin levels.  One of the reasons people are addicted to sugar is because they are trying to get their Serotonin levels up.  A lot of vegetarian end up sick, weakly with degenerative diseases because their diets consist of a lot of grains and processed flours. Digestive problems, weight problems, Osteoperosis and skin problems are all possibilities when you eat grains and refined flour.  As if that were not bad enough but because these foods are difficult to digest they activate stress hormone chemistry in the body.   Stress hormone chemistry means there can be lots of problems.  Plus when the stress hormone levels drop there can be withdrawal symptoms.  This leads to the addictive cycle that accompanies grain ingestion.  Eating lots of grains gives you a stress hormone "high" and when you stop eating the grains you have withdrawal symptoms.  There are substances in grains that act like heroin.  Could this be one of the methods that food manufacturers use to make a person eat more than they should and increase profits?  The health costs are very very substantial.
