Cholesterol Is Good For You - Part 1

Please note that this post is based on a recent radio broadcast from Naturopathic Pharmacist Ben Fuchs.  You can listen to him week days at www.brightsideben.com on Genesis Communications Network.  This post in no way is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or counsel you.  If you have a medical symptom you are advised to consult with your qualified medical practitoner.  This post is for your information and entertainment only.

This posting is sponsored by the World Health Team, distributors for Kyani International and Youngevity.  Order your Kyani products for chronic illness recovery and high sports performance here .  Order Youngevity products including the Beyond Tangy Tangerine and the "Mighty 90" essential nutrients here.

Despite all the hype cholesterol is actually good for you.  Don't believe me?  Read on.  You are about to find out that what you thought you knew about cholesterol was actually false information.  Only you can answer for yourself how can so many people be so mistaken about something as important as cholesterol.  Cholesterol being bad for you is not science but in fact an ill founded myth.  People are having all sorts of medical procedures and medication designed to reduce cholesterol.  Even governments are contemplating putting cholesterol lowering drugs into the water supply in an attempt to reduce cardiovascular disease.  According to Naturopathic Pharmacist Ben Fuchs,"there is no relationship between cholesterol and heart disease, period."

But first let us find out what is cholesterol?  Where does it come from?  Who put it there?  How can you tell "bad" cholesterol from "good" cholesterol?  What about drugs that reduce cholesterol?  Did you know that two thirds of your cholesterol is made by your own body?  Did you know that 75% of the brain's white matter is made from cholesterol as are your nerve cells?

Every cell in the body uses cholesterol to make its membrane.   All the sex hormones such as Testosterone, Esterodiol, Esterone, Esterial, Progesterone, Pregnanalone, Cortisol and DHEA are made from cholesterol.  Statin drugs create inflammation of the liver that halt the production of cholesterol.

Cholesterol is transported through the body in the blood by lipoproteins.  The lipoproteins have been divided into five categories depending on the density of fat in them:  Most people are familiar with two of these known as HDL - High Density Lipoproteins and LDL - Low Density Lipoproteins.   The difference between the HDL and, LDL is the size of the molecule.  Cholesterol itself is harmless.  There are no diseases that are caused by high cholesterol.  There is no "bad" cholesterol or "good" cholesterol.  There are some diseases that will cause cholesterol to be increased.  But there are no diseases that come from cholesterol. HDL and LDL are different indications of how your body is handling oxidative stress and free radical damage.  These markers are used to assess how well the body is handling free radicals supposedly.

According to Dr. Peter Glidden, cholesterol is not the cause of atherosclerosis.  In fact, plaques are formed as the body responds to blood vessel damage.  Thinking that cholesterol causes blocked arteries is like saying that firemen cause fires.  The bigger the fire, the more firemen that respond.  Therefore, the more atherosclerosis there is the more cholesterol there is.  This is a backwards way of thinking and hardly scientific.

If cholesterol were a problem it would be a problem in the veins as well as the arteries.  But in realty plaques build up only in the arteries and never in the veins.

Cholesterol is a biochemical molecule.  It is critical for the proper functioning of the human body.  It is the ultimate biochemical raw material from which many other biochemicals are made.  It is necessary for
  • Healing,
  • Youth
  • Growth
  • Repair
  • "Feelng Good"
  • Anti-aging
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Creation of Sex Hormone
  • Creation of Vitamin D  (Vitamin D is an electrified version of cholesterol by virtue of a small change in the cholesterol molecule)
  • Cell membrane is 50% cholesterol (cholesterol has important electrical properties as well as provides structure to the cell membrane.  In the Journal of the American Medical Association, JAMA,  it is stated that statln drugs are repeatedly associated with cancer in various studies in rodents.  It was not said that statin drugs caused cancer.)
  • There are thousands of fatty sub-structuctures inside the cells that have their own membrane also composed of cholesterol.
  • Mitochondria depend on cholesterol to maintain their electrical charge and to form their structure
  • Nerve cells throughout the body and brain also make cholesterol.  A cholesterol reducing medication or strategy not only stops the liver from making cholesterol but the nerve cells are also stopped from making cholesterol.  The effect of not making cholesterol is to turn a person into a vegetable who is incapable of thinking or moving.
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a number of illnesses including:
  • Inflammatory Diseases
  • Arthritis
  • Colitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Vitamin D may prevent macular degeneration
  • Vitamin D can help to lower blood pressure
  • Vitamin D is anti-cancer
  • Vitamin D supports the immune system
In other words, cholesterol deficiency can result in the same symptoms that Vitamin D deficiency results in.  Cholesterol deficiency can be associated with Macular Degeneration, Hypertension, Cancer and Immune problems.   Vitamin D is created by the interaction of the Sun with cholesterol.  We also get progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, pregnanalone and DHEA.

Cholesterol is necessary for skin health.  It helps the body capture and use sunlight.  Cholesterol acts like a solar battery.  Electrical changes take place as sunlight hits the cholesterol.   The energy from the sun is trapped in cholesterol based molecules.  Solar and ultraviolet energy is converted into chemical energy  via cholesterol.  It is then used in various biochemical processes in the body.

This sunlight / cholesterol connection is similar to the sunlight / Vitamin D process.  Vitamin D is a fundamental protection in the body.  Therefore, the cholesterol conversion into Vitamin D  is a critical health pathway.  However, Vitamin D must be in the correct form.  The best source of Vitamin D is the Sun.  Ultraviolet light charges the Vitamin D.   Vitamin D is the quintessential "growth and repair" molecule that is activated by the Sun.  This solar activation or sulfacion involves sulfur.

Not only is Vitamin D created by the Sun but it can also be found in food.  But it just happens to be that the same foods that are high in cholesterol are also high in Vitamin D.  Cholesterol is associated with 'vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Vitamin K. Choline, Zinc, Iron and Phospholipids are also found in cholesterol bearing foods.  Therefore, if you deprive yourself of cholesterol containing foods like eggs, organ meats, rare cooked meat, shell fish, whole milk, cheese, butter and so on you will be depriving yourself of the other nutrients associated with cholesterol.

Nothing can age a person faster than going on a cholesterol lowering diet or a cholesterol free diet.  The impact of a cholesterol lowering diet would be the same as if you were suffering from fat malabsorption in which case you must keep the gallbladder in place, use apple cider vinegar in order to acidify the stomach, activate enzymes and absorb nutrition, use lecithin after meals to bolster fat absorption, using probiotics, using The Ultimate Enzymes from Youngevity.  And be sure to eat good fats.  Phamacist Ben Fuchs says that eating cholesterol can help your liver, heart and the rest of the body. He uses the Masai tribesman of East Africa as an example of a group of people who traditional consume cow products straight from the cow such as blood and raw milk and have no heart disease whatsoever.

The cholesterol complex is found in the skins of animals including fish and chicken.  It is cholesterol that allows the skin to act like a water barrier to prevent dryness from loss of moisture and repels water from the outside.  It also prevents the entrance of bacteria and viruses through the skin.  Cholesterol in certain forms can actually kill bacteria.  A lack of cholesterol in the skin is a sign of aging.  The skin also makes hormones such as estrogen and testosterone from cholesterol.

Cholesterol is an antioxidant.  It protects tissue from the burning effects of oxygen.  This is particularly helpful in the circulatory system which is especially vulnerable to oxidation.  Cholesterol in the circulatory system is a protective mechanism.  When cholesterol is increased in the blood system it is the body's attempt to protect itself.  When the body is forced to stop making cholesterol there is the loss of one of the most important protections against heart disease.

Now you are beginning to understand why and how cholesterol is good for you.  Be sure to read part 2 of this series for more critical information unavailable from the usual sources.
